Former newscaster Jim Renick is scheduled to appear in Lackawanna County Court on May 7 for a hearing on his alleged parole violation.
He had served six years in state prison for molesting a 12-year-old boy and was free for only a few weeks before he allegedly contacted his victim at an area business.

Mr. Renick, 52, was sentenced to 15 years of special probation to begin after his state prison sentence. Initially he was placed in the Lackawanna County Prison on a 48-hour detainer. The state Board of Probation and Parole then decided that he must remain in prison until the court decides his case.

County prison Warden Tom Gilhooley said Mr. Renick was moved to the forensic unit of the State Correctional Institution at Waymart on April 5. The warden said the transfer was necessary due to of mental health concerns.

The hearing is before President Judge Chester Harhut, who presided at Mr. Renick's trial.

Lackawanna County District Attorney Andy Jarbola had said the former WNEP-TV newscaster violated his parole by having contact with his victim.

Mr. Renick was released from the State Correctional Institution at Rockview after serving six years of a three- to six-year prison term.

State Parole board spokeswoman Keldeen Stambaugh said Mr. Renick was denied parole several times, but details of the denials are not public record.

Mr. Renick, who lived in Moosic, pleaded guilty to molesting a 12-year-old Luzerne County boy and taking sexually suggestive photographs of other boys.
